En 1936, cuando se encontraba en París, organizó una oficina de reclutamiento para las Brigadas Internacionales que apoyaron a la Segunda República Española.En las filas del ejército republicano, eran incapaces de pronunciar su auténtico nombre. De ahí que, siguiendo una costumbre muy española, se le comenzara a llamar abreviadamente "Tito".

I think he would be very disappointed with the current situation in Ex-Yugoslavia. He was always talking about united Yugoslavia and all republics living under the same roof, practicing, for him, the most fair political and economic system. Look what happened! Now we are the biggest enemies.
